Torque Management???

RE: Torque Management???
Torque Management
1. Reduced engine torque when accelerating from a dead stop.
2. Reduces engine torque when accelerating quickly.
1. Reduced engine torque when braking.
2. Increases shift time (time between shifts) when transmission is too cold.
3. Reduces engine torque when in an abusive maneuver like slamming the gas, slamming the brakes, jamming it into gear, putting in drive while moving backwards, etc.
Only a custom performance tune or a Predator can turn it off or reduce the effect.
99-02 trucks – Can not be completely removed without shifting problems.
03-06 trucks – Can be removed without problems. Recommend reducing the effect as removing it completely will cut down the life of your transmission dramatically.

RE: Torque Management???
removing all Tq management will make it fast, but as stated earlier it will kill the tranny quickly if you keep getting on it. If you are careful and roll into it, that will help, but you aren't going to do that if you are wanting to remove the Tq management. Taking 65% out is supposed to be OK.

RE: Torque Management???
Don't take this the wrong way as i DO like GM's, but if they would make a strong tranny, they wouldn't have to put this torque management bandaid on their stuff to make it last! Once again, you get what you pay for, and i'll pay more tohave a strong drivetrain than a fancy computer to de-power my truck. Bet that class leading 100,000mile warranty is gone as soon as they find out you disabled the TM program! Wonder how that TM affects actual hp/tq. #'s on a dyno?

RE: Torque Management???
It doesn't effect much of anything but e.t.'s. I've seen dyno sheets for these trucks and it looks like someone is just rolling the pedal instead of flooring it. But I agree that they should just build a better trans and stop messing with the limiters. But then again its better this way then the old Ram way where trucks would drop transmissions right off the lot. (Back when they introduced the V-10 for the first time). I am hoping that they have better luck with the 6 speed they are putting in these damn things in the future. Otherwise Im never buying a new one off them.
Why dosen't any manufacturer offer a manual transmission in their 1500s except for Dodge?!? I cannot find any truck, GM, Ford, Nissan or Yota that has a manual unless it is a work truck! (or a V6) That would be perfect!

I would guess supply vs. demand. It would probably cost more to put a manual in one as they would have to custom make it for you off to the side. Too many people like auto's these days as they can talk on their cell phones and drive at the same time that way!I didn't like my manual chevy i had in the 90's for pulling, as it was real jerky, and snow sucked also.

I would love to buy something new/newer with a manual. I was actually looking at a Frontier not too long ago just because I could get the 4.0 V6 with a six speed, 4 doors and 4wd for only 24K. It had no other options but cruise and power windows but thats all I need.

RE: Torque Management???
quick02 has a 5-speed Silverado. I have also driven one at the car wash I used to work at but it had the Regency package! That thing was absolutely HOT! I wouldn't mind having a 5-speed if I could get better gas mileage. You also don't have the stupid torque management to worry about!
