trip computer question
Ok, this is a question that probably only a GM tech will be able to answer.... *looks in the direction of Argon*
I have a '04 Silverado. When i was test driving before I purchased, I drove a '04 (I think) Sierra. The Sierra had a button on the steering wheel to get Ave MPG, Inst MPG, etc to show up on the little odometer/computer area.
My '04 only has a trip button in the cluster that shows Odometer, Hourmeter, and Trip.
As a side note, I have an '00 Grand Prix that had a non-digtial computer display in it (which just showed what doors were open). I bought a digital display for it. Turns out that the computer in the car had always offered up info like MPG, Fuel Used, etc, but had no way of displaying it on the 'analog' display.
So, my question is... is there a separate computer for showing Ave MPG, Inst MPG, etc. in the Silverado or is the little display just waiting for the appropriate 'button' on the steering wheel to be pressed. It doesn't exist, but if I knew what to wire into, I could hook up a button on the dash to show me the info.
It's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask the gurus around here.

RE: trip computer question
That info is in your cluster, correct.BUT it would need to be reprogrammed, even if it were all hooked up with factory buttons...and it would be a special program (vci, its called)...the general charges us for that
