Trouble Cold Starting
Can somebody help me figure out why my truck has trouble cold starting? When I give it the first start of the day, it hesitates and takes some throttle pumping to get it going, and then if I let off of the throttle before about 15 seconds, it dies. Battery is good, tight and clean connections, Autozone checked the starter, said it was good. After it gets warmed up, no trouble starting at all. Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Trouble Cold Starting
There are a whole rash of sensors that can go bad but iff your engine is high mileage or has been abused i would go after a compression test first to rule out shot pistons. sometimes known as a leakdown test, this will let you know if it is computerized or a mechanical problem. Once the engine heats up the metals expand and the engine works fine but when cold they are contracted and scrapes and gouges in the cylnder wall can open up enough so the idle is screwed up. Again this most likely is not the issue but a compression test is real cheap to rule out an expensive fix..

Isnt there some kind of sensor that tells the computer thats its cold im not sure what its called but that might be youre prob. Its supposed to keep youre idle at like 1200 or something till it reaches a certain temp.
