I am upgrading to a new kenwood head unit, thought everything was goin swell until the ppl at best buy and another car audio store both told me in order to prevent my tranny from locking up, i need to get some $120 part.....that somehow relates to my audio sysytem??? ya i really don't have a clue never heard of this and dont know if its b/s or not, if it is true or not if anyone knows about this and can give me advice please do so, it would be greatly appreciated

oh yea, what year truck and what kind of kenwood? do you have on star?

 

2004 silverado 5.3... the kenwood, i dont know offhand...it is about $150 at the store w/ mp3/ipod/satelite radio hookups

 

you dont know if your truck has onstar? because if it does, that could be why they are saying that...your whole truck can be controled by someone the other other side of the country with onstar.

 

When I replaced my head unit in my truck 03 silverado 1500, I had to buy a little box to install between the wiring from the truck to the back of the head unit. you do need to buy it because chevy had the bright idea to run the security and every other kind of system through the stock head unit. for example you open your door with the key in the ignition you here a beeping sound. that program is sent through the stock unit. Chevy's way of trying to keep there product in there vehicle. But it only cost me $90 to buy mine from circuit city. Chevy started doing this a little befor 2002 if I remember correctly. They aren't trying to swendel you but shop around and see if you can't find a better price.

 

i had to do the same in my 06 2500HD. they didnt have one that made all the chimes come back though. so i called the company that made it and they are supposed to send me a new one to install. i think they charged me $100 at circuit city.

 

oh yea, i forgot all about that...honda put the same thing in some of thier cars too...that happend to a friend of mine that got a honda civic...i just thought it was for those crapy import cars...

 

Could someone please describe this "little box" further? I have a '03 2500HD. I am installing an Pioneer AVIC-Z1. This is the first time I have heard of this issue.

If you could also post a link to where to get these boxes that would be greatly appreciated.
