Default Using an Cold Air Intake with my 5.3 2003 Silverado

Hi I own a Chevy Silverado 1500, and I've been having troubles with the fuel economy (16MPG driving it very nice).

I was wondering if this could be due to too much air from the Cold Air Intake, would going back to the stock intake be my best option for better fuel economy?

No. Too much air is a good thing. Think bout it, this would cause it to run lean, meaning more air than fuel mixture. You get more power like this but, the motor will run hotter. But the computer will compensate this and add more fuel to keep the air/fuel mixture right. Most of the time when mileage becomes bad, O2 sensors are the culprits. O2 sensors tend to get lazy over time with mileage. So putting new ones helps keep the mixture dead on. I would try this first.

Also adding a CAI with oiled filters will contaminate the Mass Air Sensor. So I would clean that at least once a month.

Thank you. Is there anything else I can put on my truck to increase performance? I've been thinking about getting a programmer but I'm not sure which one.

Since you already have a CAI, add an exhaust, then get a custom tune. The tune you will really notice a big difference, way better than the handheld programmers! Nelson tuning is pretty good.
