i'm looking to replace my original spark plug
and coil wires for my 1999 4.3L 160k mile truck.
not sure what band/ kit to get. I usually stick
with ACDelco for stuff like this

seems ACDelco has two kits:

9746MM is associated with 88862415
746MM is associated with 88984266

i think those are GM part numbers

any one know the diff?
maybe one comes with the coil wire, the other doesn't?
maybe the conductor?
insulation?
temp range?

 

i did some more web searching on this but did not uncover the difference. anyone out there know the diff?

 

Hmmm. I would just run down to Napa or Auto Zone and ask them. I'm sure they would know

 

local NAPA says they don't carry ACDelco sparkplug wires and doesn't know who does carry them.

the ACDelco site has both 97466mm and 746mm in their catalog, which says both are applicable for my engine, but parts pages do not provide a description.

 

I have never heard of those numbers before. I have heard or 6mm, 7mm, 8mm ect.
Never nothing like 97466mm.

That's absolutely absurd. I just bought a set of genuine Delco plugs for my truck. Here are the spark plugs that work with your truck at MY local NAPA store. The part numbers will be slightly different than when the truck was new, but I would print that out and show it to the NAPA guys... sounds like a new guy to me

The part numbers are for the wires as opposed to the plugs

chevychase - yep, not sure, the 9746mm and 746mm are ACDelco part numbers, not dimensions.

joedirt830 - just a standard 4.3L engine

GMCSierraFan - thats what I said. the response was "no acdelco ignition wires"


I called R A, since they sell both kits. Response was nothing more than a bit a talk about this and that mfr ... no technical specifications.

I also did some more researching ... still news on the difference.

 

Whoops... that's what I get for completely skimming over posts... I didn't actually register when I read the term WIRES and just assumed spark plugs. Oops!

 

... i thought i'd bump this thread one last time to see if anyone has information on the difference between two ignition wire kits that are spec'd for my 1999 4.3L engine.

AC Delco has 9746MM and 746MM as part numbers for the wire kits. i've not been able to find out the difference after a few phone calls and a fair amount of online searching.

... or any recommendations on a different brand/part ?
