Well here's to consider, I use a Superchip for their Tow Mode and find the product does what I need.
But there I was in line for California Smog check 93k did'nt give it a thought, truck runs great not issue. Until I saw the mechanic reach under the dash board of the car in front of me and unplug the computer.
Oh Crap!! I had not change my settings back to stock. The guy that runs the smog check is a pretty cool guy, I informed him that I was running a modified tune from the stock settings and that I was going to have to get out of line and come back another day after I reset my tune back to stock. He had some kind of had held device that would let him read my setup and he said that it would most likely pass.
And pass it did like a new truck.
Using Tow Mode it requires 91 Oct. with I use when towing but not around town
I was using Costco gas 87 Oct. with 10% ethanol, and Castrol Edge synthetic oil
So my hand held programmer did just a little bit more than I expected.
If you want pure performance a custom tune will probably give you a little more hp, but you will be running 91 Oct. all the time and at $4.50 gal. ouch.
hope this helped
