to have a lower control arm ball joint replaced?

depends..1/2 ton 2wd...about 2 hours...up to maybe 3.5 hours for a 1 ton 4wd

I paid $40 for a TRW lower ball joint and $75 for it to be replaced. this was on a 98 4x4 1500. if done right I'd say it was a good price. yes/no?

sure...cheapsh....

1/2 tons are wayyy easier though.,..those 1 tons and up take a lot o pounding

help the ignorant new truck owner here...........do I have a 1/2 ton or 1 ton truck (I assume that is load carrying capacity)?

98 K1500 ext cab 4x4 with 5.7 liter

yes,your 1500 is half ton..

3/4's and 1 tons have much bigger axles,suspensions,etc

yep...close enough anyway..

a true half ton is 100...in the sixties,Ford had F100,and chevy C10....somehow over the years,they sort of morphed into an F150 and C1500,,..
this makes them more of a "9/16" ton really.
How old are you Cracker?...remember in the later 70's...chevy had the BIG 10...its mostly marketing.
