Default What Size Tire

I have a 05 Crew cab z71 LT. I am wanting to put some 20" Helo Maxx 6 or 8 rims on the truck and i am leaning to the Nitto Terra Grapplers for tires. My question is what size tire would be best? Any help is much appreciated.

I would go with 285 55 r20 or stock size tire would be 265 55 r20 the 285 is what i am running with with a17 inch rim. So the 285 55 r20 would look nice on your truck.

Here's a pretty neat tire size calculator. You can see side and end comparisons. Something I don't know much about, but is a concern is wheel offset. I would imagine it's not quite as critical on trucks as cars though.

I you go off road a 20" wheel is not recommended without a lift kit, because, you need about 6" of tire between your rim and anything you might run over. Petersens' 4x4 off road mag just did an article on this. Check the mag stands, you may find some helpful info there.

Also you get very little sidewall flex. I would stay with 17" rims if you plan to go offroad, which I assume is why you got a Z-71.

actually a lot of people get z71s because you can get bigger rims on there, since they sit higher than 2wds... pisses me off that a kid with rims gets 4wd and my country a$$ has to get to the deer stand with two wheel drive...

but i digress...

Yeah that sucks, since mommy and daddy are footing the bill. But the normal guy (that pays for his own gas) only gets a 4x4 if he plans to use it. I would have gotten a 2wd if I could and use a prerunner kit, but I need the 4wd.

Just put some really aggressive mud tires, and get a poor mans winch or a real winch and you will be good. Sometimes $wd just gets you in more trouble. I try to run in 2wd till I see where I am at then decide whether to push it. But I wil say, having a rear locker is awesome. You may want to look into it as it helps 2wd alot offroad. Just get a selectable
