Wheel painting ??
Does anyone have experience painting over chrome wheels. I painted the wheels on my car, but those were polished, not chrome. The car wheels came out well. I have had people ask if they were powdercoated. I am wondering if the smooth, shiny chrome can be sanded and roughed up enough to hold paint.
I want to paint them black and leave the vertical lip on the outside, chrome. I was looking at some wheels on the web. Most of the ones I like are 17" or larger. And were like$1100 and up. I don'tor need to replace tires. Plus that added expense.Below is a link to apic of my car. I want to do the same on my truck.

How do I get a picture in, or attached to, a post?

RE: Wheel painting ??
You could trade with someone who has painted w/t wheels. That would give you rims that are paintable. If I had another set of wheels to put on my truck now I would give mine to my brother in law to have powder coated black except for the outer rim, which I would tape off to leave silver. Then we could just trade. I would like to have chrome wheels on my truck.
Or you can just buy a set of painted wheels off ebay and paint them yourself.
As for painting chrome. DON'T! It will not last no matter how well you prep it.

I used DupliColor wheel paint for the color, NAPA etching primer and clear. I did it about a year ago. They have a few nicks and chips, but it should be pretty easy to touch-up.
The worst part is allowing the painted wheels to cure properly. I waited about a week to put mine back on. While they were off I put on new struts. And the Suby is a third vehicle so I had my old truck to use.
