Window Guillotine!
Hello Everyone!
I hate to be a pest- (I've been posting questions a lot lately. This has been "Truck Goes Nuts" month for me.)
My Sierra has power windows. I am very consistent about cleaning & lubricating the tracks once a year. (When I clean out the road salt from inside the door bottom crease & re-apply Fluid Film for rust protection.) Last time was in March. They've always worked fine, except when ice seizes them. Until Yesterday ...
All of a sudden, one of them is going up like a NASA rocket. Less than two seconds & it is fully up. Slam! Does a great job slicing watermelon for picnics. Who needs a Ginsu?
I measured 13.8 volts DC at the motor. I searched physically & in print & on-line, for clues about a resistor in the circuit- Guessing there is some voltage regulation device to slow things down a bit. (OR- Slow things down a lot!)
The other window also has 13.8 volts at the connector- but I don't know if it flies up now or not because the cable decided to fray itself apart Sunday & I haven't replaced the mechanism yet. It's #3 on the 'Must Do Now' list for the truck. (#1 on the list might become- 'Get Torch Out. Turn Truck Into Modern Art' if it doesn't start behaving soon!)
Have any of you experienced this phenomenon? Did I miss a voltage regulator somewhere?
Thanks For Your Help!
Paul

As far as I know it's all regulated by the motor itself. Funny, because it has always been the opposite (too slow to go up) this is the first time I have heard of a complaint on being too fast.

Thank You!
Thanks Mr Shamrock!
You always come through in a pinch with great information! Bailed me out big time with the no-start diagnostic information last week.
What I think I'll do is, after I replace the regulator for the one with the bad cable, take that old motor (assuming it fits) & install it in the window that has the bad attitude. If it acts normally- Good Deal! If it doesn't fit, I can, at least, bench test the two & see if one is running faster than the other (just for curiosity's sake).
Or, if I'm smart- I'll get another brand new regulator set for that side & not waste time goofing around ($36.00-can't complain about that).
One thing's for certain- I can't leave it alone. I'd imagine a couple more fast up cycles & I'll be cleaning up glass pieces!
Thanks Again,
Paul
