Polybius- other than Ford being a Ford and a Dodge being a Dodge, I don't really know what I would suggest other than to get a GMC...LOL I hear nothing but horror stories about Dodge truck losing transmissions and Fords stand for Found On Road Dead GMC Sierra all the way- cause it's Professional Grade

I would suggest you start your own thread and not high jack somebody else to post a question.

I am choosing whether to buy a either

- 1992 Ford F-150 flare-side, 302 v8 ext cab, short box or

- 1997 Dodge power Ram 2500 slt Laramie, ext cab, long box with the 5.9 360

As a first truck, and being a big guy (6'6 300lbs) which would suit me better?

First off, im not really doing any long driving maybe once in a while, but not often. no this will not be used to haul or tow anything. I do plan on raising it a few inches, but not much. Im hoping for some 32-36'' tires eventually.

anything i missed, feel free to ask.

AND NO, im not just looking for an answer, im looking for opinions. i like them both, but i was wondering what you guys like/hate about both of them?
I had a 93 Ford and the 302 didn`t have enough power to get out of it`s own way. In michigan the Fords of this vintage had rust problems with the rear spring mounts and oil pans.

The Dodge with the 360 has far more power but the Dodges of this vintage had transmission problems and the 360 is thirsty.

Today I would buy any brand. The 1990s I`d look for the GM trucks.
The GM did have intake manifold gasket trouble in the late 90s and fuel pumps tended to go bad as well. I think at that time the GM was over all a better truck until the 97 Fords came out.
I think the Dodge would be easiest to lift with it`s solid front axle.

Between Dodge and Ford I`d choose the Dodge.

25 mpg does sound attractive in a pick up truck.. but keep in mind where you gain in fuel mileage you will loose in horsepower, torque decreased towing power.
