It baffles me that my all terrain edition GMC has so much effort put into chrome trim, color matching door handles, and color matched mirrors, yet from the rear, the pickup looks like any other Red GMC on the market.

I want to get rid of the black plastic tailgate handle and put some sort of a chrome cover on it. They make them for about $30, but they are attached only with 3M tape. I'm worried that putting 20,000 miles/ year on this truck in northern climates will cause the tape to lose it's tackiness or that the chrome plastic cover will somehow corrode or pit.

Does anyone have experience with these covers? I don't want to put it on and then have it look like crap in a year. My mom has one on her 15' F350, but the truck only has 6000 miles on it.
