Default fuel pump probs

I have a 1990 Ford F-150 2 wheel drive with dual tanks. I filled both tanks with gas. ( no the rear tank doesn't leak) Since then the fuel pump won't pump fuel from the rear tank. You can hear it kick in and run but thats it. What I am wondering is can I put in a after market in line fuel pump as a new fuel pump assembly starts at 180 dollars in new jersey. Any help or assistance is appriciated

Thanks

i would try to get under the truck and check the filter from the rear tank..is the rear tank self feeding into the engine? or does it feed into the front tank? i had a ford motor home with dual tanks..but i dont recall how the system works...if there is a seperate line from the rear tank, i think ford uses underbody filters, which means you can take the filter from the rear tank out, and turn the filter on and see if it is pumping to there..perhaps the filter is plugged...when was it repalced last?

I already did that. Changed fuel filter...the truck only has 1 fuel filter for both front and rear tank. It uses a splitter so to say to supply fuel to engine. Unfortunatly I got the truck after the recall expired for the diverter. I have the problem of the fuel from front tank returning to rear tank so now I have to remove fuel in rear tank when it starts over flowing

so the pump is bad then? i would think that you could simply put a high volume filter somewhere downstream, but there might be a catch of sort within the in-tank rear pump....so if you put suction to the new pump that you put inline, the old pump may restrict the amount of flow.
