I have also posted an over heat on my 2001 f-350. I have 110,000 miles on it and most of that is traveling cross country pulling an 18,000 lb fifth wheel, hitch weight was 4,500 lbs
Both times mine overheated was when I was not pulling. One ford svc teck said change the radiator and cooler at cost of $1,200.00 but he is full of it as I went to another ford sv dept and he told me it was internal, possibly a selnoid. Have not done anything yet as no other problem with it. 1st time it overheated was 2 years ago in WY, not pulling then either. Had a diagnostic, cost $80.00, run and it showed code P1783 which is overheat. Let me know anything at Jared 1 if you find out anything please. I also have 2 coolers for the trans on this truck. Thanks

Hello there. I have a 1999 F-350 Dually 2 wheel drive.I use it w/ a 53 foot long trailer that takes 3 cars. Sometimes pretty heavy load. I bought the truck used, with only 84.000 miles. Servicing the transmission every 10 or 12 thousand miles. 3 weeks ago, now with 118.000 the shifter light starts flashing, for coincidence I was taking 2cars to a localFord Dealer.I spoketo a tech guy, and he told me that could be one of theSolenoids. So,I told him that the tranny was shifting a little harder thru the next 2 gears after starting moving. He said that was because the computer was detecting signs of sleepage and to compensate that itwas sending more oil pressure. Well, the solenoidwas the(shifter solenoid) andcost me, $( 273.00 ,money wasted)and it look a like part of thevalve body. After 2 weeks the tranny is gone.YesterdayI got a new Remanufactured by Ford w/ a 3year or 75.000 miles warranty, for, $ 2.305.08.I drove it now for 2 days and it's nice shift very smooth. I will drive it a little more before startingputting load on it. I just hope it will last. I have just order a B&M tranny cooler and will add a Fan, and also a aluminum oil pan w/ a capacity for 2 more quarts of oil. I would recommend do not spend any money trying to fix what is already bad. Just buy another one. Good luck.
