Default 2002 F250 V10 4x4 Speedometer quit!

I have a 2002 F250 V10 4x4 with 38,000 miles on it and the speedometer just quit working. The cruise is not working and the od light is flashing. It was working fine until I sat it up for a couple months and jumped it off when the batteries died. Does any one have any suggestions? I've checked every fuse/relay.
Thanks!

personally, i would try and find an independent mechanic to look at it over a stealership... but I could be biased here.

Looks like you're about 2000 miles out of warranty, so they may offer you a discount or something??

I'm wondering... Before you take your truck to the dealership. Take your ownership to the dealership and ask the service department to run your VIN # in the data base to search for any outstanding bulletins on your cluster and speedometer.
Most bulletins give a fix solution.

Let us know how it turns out.

Yea, I not a big fan of our "local" Ford dealer and really hate to bring it over there, but I have to do something. Watching my GPS works for the speed, but I sure miss my cruise. I'm not sure if the od flashing is indicating that the od is off or not. I don't need any help with getting less mpg.....It just doesn't make sense in a vehicle with only 38,000 miles to have this kind of problem.

I've been doing some research online and have found quite a few references to problems with the VSS, would that be a starting point? Would a bad VSS show up on a code reader?

Did you ever find out what it was? My 2000 F250 is doing the same thing. The check engine light came on, the speeedometer quit and the od light flashes.
