2011 F 350 Dually potential new owner
I am looking hard at a new F 350 4x4 Duelly, but have some questions for you all.
My towing will be: 3 horse slant, trailer hauling 100 hay bales or 3-4 round bales, etc.
I want to go with a 6.2 Gas not the 6.7, what are some of the pro and cons? My main reason is saving 8K for the Diesel and the extra .30 a gal for it.
What gearing should I look at to get? Should I spend the $$$ for the limited slip 3.73 or get the locking version?
What is the basic Highway mpg. (Towing or not)
What options did you get or should have gotten and why?
I am looking at getting the 5th wheel package, with the goose neck add on (should I get the trailer package as well?)
*******
I am driving a F 150 XLT 4x4 right now with a 4.6 (bad choice, should have gone with the 5.4). I like the looks of a Duelly and want the option to pull what ever I need to. I am looking at relocating to Idaho or Wyoming area hopefully in a few years, just as a side note.
Thanks for your replies.

I've got a 2011 Ford F350 SRW with the 6.7 Powerstroke and I honestly wouldn't reccomend anything else for towing.
I don't know anything about the gas engine, but the Powerstroke has been more than impressive for the first 15,000 miles which includes two trips to florida and back (from Michigan) with our 3 Horse gooseneck trailer. You honestly don't even know it's behind you.
On another note, unless you are pulling extremely huge loads, the stability management system on the SRW makes it so that having dual rear wheels is almost negligable. I would save your money on that... It's a bitch to park the SRW, and I drive a heavy duty truck as well.
Fuel economy:
Unloaded-
City: 16-17
Highway: 20-22
Loaded- (3 horse slant steel Gooseneck GVWR 12,000lbs)
City: 14
Highway 16+
Fantastic truck though, for the few times I've gotten to drive it I've been quite impressed

The Crew Cab.
One thing to keep in mind is the resale value: our last truck was a 2006 GMC 2500 Duramax that had an $8000 premium for upgrading to the Diesel over the 6.0 that GM offers. When we traded it in, it was six years old and it had 100,000 miles on it and had been used quite a bit (not perfect condition). The Ford Dealer gave us $24,900 on trade in plus a bunch of other extras. When we traded in our 03 GMC Sierra with 65k in perfect condition(loaded, leather etc) on the 06 in 05 (3 years old), we got $16,900 on trade in. So basically, that premium doesn't depreciate unless you beat the **** out of the truck.
Here's a pic of ours
