2015 F250 6.2L Safe Towing
Hello all ,
I am new to this forum and I will soon be needing exp. Owners opinions on my New Truck.. Love it.. I will also be sharing or helping if possible. I and my wife recently purchased a new F250 6.2L (gas) 4x4 CC Lariat 6.5' bed .. We aren't new to Rving/ Towing.. Prior to the new Ford we owned a Titan .. towed a Travel trailer that weighed 6700 lbs dry and had no issues . I have always made sure we had at least 1k of towing cushion . We are currently looking to trade up into a Keystone Cougar fifth wheel that has a dry weight of 10,580 .. I am so confused with so many sites recommending what's safe and what's not and so many opinions from other's .. So many variables that I am so confused wife went to bed frustrated and so worried that I figure I would reach out for some clear and precise answers if possible.. The RV dealer of course is telling us that we are fine.. But with the truck only capable of towing 12,100 with a fifth wheel hitch.. I am concerned of not allowing a safe cushion after I calculated our personal weight/ Cargo/ Gas etc.. that came in at roughly 11,900... I was then told that Fords specs on towing of 12,100 is represented of a full tank and x2 passengers.. ? I haven't been able to verify this .. So if anyone has exp. in towing a fifth wheel or has true knowledge of what's safe with our new truck.. I would be greatly appreciative .. Thank you in Advance - Ed

If your coming in at 11,900 with your loaded trailer your tongue weight will be around 1785 with a 5th wheel. Check the vehicles rear payload and GVWR to make sure its safe. Even if its within your tow rating you may want to get some additional load support to keep the vehicle level and protect your suspension. Air bags can give you up to 5000lbs of additional load support. Be careful with the F250 though, because often times the airbag brackets will install in the same place as the hitch you will need to get a kit that is designed for use with a 5th wheel. You can check out this information, it should be useful to you.
