Cool 2x4 to 4x4

Ok just a few questions maybe someone can answer. I have a 2000 F250 Superduty crewcab 2 wheel drive 7.3 diesel powerstroke. Best truck I have ever owned. I want to put a 4x4 front end under it. I am pretty mechanically inclined and the job doesn't scare me in the least. Except maybe some of the computer stuff. I am looking at buying a salvaged or wrecked vehicle with a 4x4 front end and do the swap. Is this job to complicated or not?
I need to know if the transfer case off a gas or a smaller diesel engine will work on my truck or should I stick to buying a truck with an engine like mine.
Also I wouldn't necessarily have to have the 4x4 switch in my dash although it would be nice if I am able to buy a truck with a usable dash in it. Are there any manual shift transfer cases that will fit my truck?

Thanks for your time.
