Ford Noob Here, Replacing the Chevy.=p lets hold the chevy jokes for now :)
Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum, thanks for having me.
I am replacing my chevy with an 81 f350 dump, 5 speed with a 351, W I assume.
Truthfully I would not have bought it, but it is pretty good shape for an 81, and looks better than some 97+ chevy dumps I have seen around.
The owner said he just paid to have a new clutch put it, and now it knocks.
I was figuring it was a flywheel/clutch problem, and the mechanic botched it.
I think it is a main knock though, the pully seems to wobble a lot, and the knock just sounds like a crank problem cause its like a symphony of clams. I know what a rod knock sounds like from blowing up too many motorcycle engines..
I figured I could find a used 351 for $200 somewhere.
But I wanted to see what would be the best replacement, another 351 from any ford truck? or a 460 or something?
Any advice would be appreciated.
I plan on running this block until it craps the bed, maybe it will last a year, you never know.
Keep in mind im a complete noob to Fords, and I would never touch any Ford newer than the 80's.
I hate buying special tools for one car, and ford seems to love that game.
Thanks
