Angry P040D Error Code

I just recently bought a 2008 F250 6.4L about 2 months ago and has 113k miles with no warranty. On my way home from a 5 hour drive, about 3 hours into it i noticed i had NO power. I pulled over and made a phone call to a friend who was able to look up the code (It has an edge race cts programmer on it that reads trouble codes, the truck also has a DPF delete kit on it) He said i should be fine to ride the rest of the way home so i did. I been trying to research why i got this error and noticed that their is two possible reasons. 1) the sensor is known to go out and 2) the valve is stuck open and allows the exhaust gas to flow constantly to the sensor. I ALWAYS do my own work on my gas vehicles but this is my first diesel and am trying to figure out how to trouble shoot this issue to figure out if its the valve or the sensor. Im clueless when it comes to diesels but would love to learn as much as i can. Like i said i been researching and can not find a post further to resolve this issue other then take it to the dealer and let them fix. I'm sitting tight right now on funds and would like spend as less as i can. If anyone can give me any input on how to troubleshoot this or let me know what im getting myself into it would be greatly appreciated!

If you need anymore info, ill be glad to answer your questions to further help me.
