Shimmy

Shimmy
Was driving my truck to Montana a week ago, and i encountered a rough section of pavement in a curve on I-90. A while back I received a notice from ford about a front end shimmy, but I have never experienced anything like this before, and it scared the hell out of me. When I hit the rough/washboard pavement, my steering wheel was shaking so hard back and forth, that I could barely hold onto it with both hands. The 18 wheeler driver that was slightly behind me in the next lane, said it looked like the whole truck was shaking apart and he slowed down so that I could try and get over to the shoulder. I was doing 70MPH which was less then the speed limit, as I was towing my pop up trailer. My truck is a 2005 F-350 with 6 Liter diesel and 117,000 miles. My tire infaltion is in line with the recommended pressures, tires are rotated and balanced every 5000. When this happened, I touched the brakes lightly, and it got much worse. I am positive that my rotors are not a cause, because there are no vibrations, or grabbing when i am going straight. I did discover after this that I could reproduce this shimmy with braking in a curve, but not to the same scarey degree as when it happened initially. Any one have this issue? Any ideas as to the cause? Suggestions? Ideas on the service advisory is what I think the called it?It wasn't a recall, but an informational bulletin talking about tire pressures and that they (Ford) are aware of the situation. Help!!!
