Default What size engine????

Hey everyone, I currently have a 2000 F-150 with the 4.6l v8. I want more power to tow a larger trailer easier. I don't like the new F-150's so I decided to just go for a used F-250. I'm looking at a 2005-07 truck which would fit my budget. I was looking into the 6.0 strokers but I've heard some bad things about them. I'm pulling a 6'x12' enclosed trailer fully loaded across country which I'd like to do comfortably. Please give some suggestions!!! Thanks. -Mike

I'd say find a 7.3 Powerstroke, or switch brands

i would think a 7.3 would be a bit overkill for a 6x12. i would say a 6.0L would be fine unless you have a really heavy load. but the 7.3 would definatly make it the easiest. also there is the triton v10. my cousins pulls a 5th wheel camper all the time and he has never had a single problem with it to my knowledge.

i think he stays at 11 miles to the gallon even with the heavy load it doesn't really cause the engine much strain. and with a 32 gallon tank u could go over 300 miles on one tank. though with a power stroke it would be a little more fuel efficient but more costly to fill up when u do eventually have to stop.

Diesel is cheaper than gas here... Gas is $2.49, Diesel is $2.32

Get a Dodge with a Cummins or a HD GM truck gas has HP but diesil has the pulling power that you need.

Well if your looking for an earlier model pickup, 250 size, i would suggest looking at the 07 models becuase those 6l have had the bugs worked out of them and are slightly more reliable then the 03 to 06 engines. i have a 2000 7.3 and i love it. Although i tow a slighty heavy load (01 1840 Case Skid Loader) my milage on it is aswome, i would guess i get anywhere from 20 to 25 miles to the gallon on the highway and 16 to 18 in the city i live in. altough you can always improve gas milage by watching your driving styles. but if you want to stay gas, and milage really isnt a factor, a 250 with the 5.4 in it should do you alright, i would also look into investing in a trailor brake system if you already havent

5.4L would be bad on gas if he has the trailor fully loaded he might as well go for a diesel. but if he isn't going to have a major load on it a 5.4L could work.
