Default 1989 C1500 5.7L

I need to ask a technical question before starting a repair job. As mentioned I have a c1500 with a 5.7L and a dead starter. I put a new battery (fully charged) in it and everything came on but when you turn the key you can't hear the previously noisy starter engage, so I am pretty sure this trouble. Please advise if you think it something else. My question is of a technical nature. I just moved and my jack and most of my tools are 40 miles away. I am prepared to go buy a socket set if I need too (I have a box with a few various bits and pieces with a 3/8 drive) sitting here. I am a fat guy with a bad back so I only want to crawl under the truck once so my questions are what size sockets do I need, do I need an extension bar, and what side is the starter on? TIA

starter is on passenger side...9/16 bolts and an extension to unbolt the starter...however,the wiring nuts can differ greatly from starter brands...the big one from 13mm to about 16mm...the little one probably 5/16 or 11/32

Thanks, that is helpful, now if it wasn't dropping rain by the bucketload I'd be even happier...
