1998 S10 V6 Water pump question

Default 1998 S10 V6 Water pump question

Replaced water pump on my S10 V6, , also all hoses ......... went with a new water pump rather than a rebuilt , drove over 500 miles ........everthing OK & no leaks /normal temp maybe,yesterday entring highway on ramp went full throttle to 70 MPH, & lost coolant got home took off fan shrowd , to get a look & one of the small gaskets was leaking badly as if the gasket totally let go ..........when installed , cleaned gasket surface completly & used correct gaskets etc............ why did this happen ? altough was runninhg normal temt could my thermostat be stuck closed , am going to take pump back to NAPPA & get exchange for another new pump & do it again......... any sugestions .........

its easy for those gaskets to slip out of place as your getting the new pump in place...on the new pump,glue em down good and let em dry...not with silicone pooky,but some sort of adhesive

Argon, I did use silicone &this time will not .. looked at NAPPA site they sell two water pumps one clockwicse rotation one counter clockwise ratation ... trusted Nappa guy to give me correct oneif I installed incorrect rotation could this have created problem, ..I did drive about 500 miles without symtoms ..but did notice the lower hose was always cool....althogh its in the low 30 s & winter

amendum..serpintine belt driven

not likely...

on delco pumps...the 2 that turn different directions have different threads in the holes for the fan studs
