Default 87 chevy full size tranny problems

Engine 350
Tranny 700
4x4

Here goes... A couple of weeks ago I had hesitation going from second to third gear. I took it into a shop and they told me it was working fine. It was and I drove it for a week until today and I know longer have drive or over-drive, only 1st and 2nd.Then while driving it home after I noticed the new issue I heard a ticking noise from the engine. [:'(]That noise turned out to be a bolt from the air pump that had come loose and was hitting the fan [>:], so my question is this... Could the air pump be bad?Could this be causing my tranny problems? []

Thanks in advance

My guess is that your 3-4 clutches are out. Time for a rebuild.

Also I took it out for a quick spin this morning and now it is hesitating when talking off, after a few seconds it is fine??? This doesn't feel like a tranny problem. Could these two issues be related?

Default 700R4 Tranny Rebuild

Ok. Having rebuilt engines, replaced tranny's and just been a gear head all my life is buying a tranny rebuild kit and doing the work myself feasible? Having never actually done anything other than remove/replace and changing filter/oil on a tranny I wonder if rebuilding would be over my head???

Ant thoughts?

its a tedious job. easy to mess up if you dont know what your doing. especially when it comes to the ball bearings that run through the runners.
