Default Building a 350

I am planning on building a 350 from the block up. I want to do it right and my plan is to drop it into a 68-72 chevy truck. What do I need to look for on the main bolt pattern and size? Does it really matter? Will I be able to take any 350 or are there certain blocks that are the easiest to work with when it comes to applying it and putting a drive train on it?

If starting on a 350. I myself would use any 010 casting four bolt main block and go.

It really depends on what your looking to build - a nice comfortable driver, a pro-street, or just a street rod with a mild cam. There is definitely different opinions on 2 VS 4 bolt main motors. I have had both that run really well. Some say that the 4 bolts are stronger but then the argument is that the material taken away to put the extra bolts weakens it. If your looking for something really smooth and comfortable a late model that will accept a roller set-up might be what your looking for. Chevrolet has been very good through the years of keeping the basic platform the same so a 1995 350 will bolt up the same as a 1985 or 1975 or so on. Of course there have been some changes for example the newer motors will not take a mechanical fuel pump. So it all boils down to what your looking to create, but going for a 350 build is definitely a good start!
