driveline clunk

driveline clunk
Hello, I have a '94 sierra 4x4 ext. cab short bed. When I come to a complete stop there is a clunking noise. When I leave a stop there is another clunking noise. This only happens at COMPLETE stops. The u-joints are new. I have also recently replaced the rear diff. ring and pinion and all the bearings. It does not appesr to do it when the 4-wheel drive is on. It sounds like there is something shifting forward and backward. The noise APPEARS to be coming from the rear, butyou know how noise can travel. It has done this for years, but now getting worse. Any ideas?? All replies will be appreciated. This has a 1 piece driveshaft

RE: driveline clunk
Mine does the exact same thing. I have a 99 sierra. Anyone know whats going on? Only happens at complete stops then when starting. I have lived with this for quite a while. Have no idea what it could be. I think it does less when towing. I may be just imagining that though.

RE: driveline clunk
just purchased a 05 Sierra Crew Cab myself and mine is starting to do it also, took my mechanic around the block and he told me it's the "YOLK" or "YOKE", however it is spelled that what the problem is.
he added that GM trucks have had this problem for years.
about 100 bucks will fix it , or there is a packing grease from the dealership that will cure it short term

RE: driveline clunk
same prob here.... on my '02 Sierra Z71
Like there is play in the drive-line when unloaded, then has to take up the slack with a "clunk" when getting on the gas again.
VERY annoying, and even worse than the audible noise is the delay in acceleration! Arrgh!
So, bkholt, what is this magical $100 buck trick your mechanic told you about??
