Default Electric supercharger

My cousin bought a crappy electric supercharger the other day, and I must say it looks like a piece of crap. There is no way these things can work, right?

I've never even heard of this...How is it supposed to work? Where did it come from?

I don't know personally what kind of difference it makes personally but I was told it makes like 1 lb. of boost. It is a fan that you insert in intake somewhere like between the air filter and intake tube. I guess you just have an on/off switch to make it generate boost. I doubt if it does anything besides block the intake tube from getting regular air flow when you are not using it.

I have heard of a "redneck Super charger" basically the same thing. I don't think that an electric fan will generate 1lb of boost. if it did then it would starve the intake when the fan is off, becouse it would have so tight of tolerences. Just a thought, is it a pergressive rate electric fan, becouse if it is not then at idle you will be building "boost" but when you are at full throttle you will be on negative intake pressures starving the engine once again.

These "electric superchargers" are bilgefans for boats--about $25 each, only on e-bay they sell 'em as super or turbo - chargers for about $60-$70 each. If you look up bilge fans on a marine supply website you'll see pictures identical to the "electric superchargers." They don't put out enough pressure or air to supercharge anything. To get anelectric motor to put out enough "boost" to work, would take more electricity than your car can produce and they'd be huge heavy motors. There are articles aboutthis on the internet somewhere, although it's been years since I looked. Don't get taken.
