Default Engine Dating

I just ripped the motor out of a 1988 Suburban to drop it into my 1994 GMC Sierra. I was told by the suburban owner that the guy he bought it from put a newer motor in. I didn't care because the price was awesome, but I'm trying to track the numbers. I've determined that the block was casted on Nov 25, 1987, but Looking for the Identification numbers is challenging. I found the one at the rear above the bellhousing meeting point, but this engine does not have the pad below the head on the passenger side. Anyone able to tell me where to locate the number that would have normally been there?
