Default Help: Engine Trouble or Electrical?

Quick Summary of Problem:

On a long trip home yesterday, 300 miles, my '94 Suburban shut off on me about 15 times. Scary, right on the Interstate. It would just jolt and cough, then stop.

The tach would fall abruptly then go back up, then I'd buck for several seconds, then stall.

Restarting was difficult, and most often the engine would go to idle then shut off again.

It seemed forawhile that if I kept the RPMs up, the engine would run and not choke off. I did go 250 miles without it shutting off, but then it jolted, bucked and shut off--and all the troubles repeated.

A few times I was literally bucking for a mile.

So: Do I have a bad fuel pump? A bad fuel filter? Or, is there something wrong with the electrical system?

The battery seems strong. Thanks for the help.

You've got to be right. A friend told me to first try the filter. I did. No luck. It just runs, shuts off; runs shuts off. All the earmarks of a bad pump. Maybe a computer issue, but the shop will have the last say. thx
