Chevy to Cummins?
Hello everyone,
Currently, I have a 2wd S-10, that is great on gas and gets me around... but.. I live in maine, and we get a lot of snow up here. This year, I decided to put it up for sale to get a bigger, for wheel drive. I was looking for something 97-01 Dodge Ram, but I came across a 99 3500 Cummins. Its only 2wd, and i dont mind that as much, but it has 240k miles.. 60k More then my s10. Is it a good idea? I know those trucks can run up till 400k with tranny rebuild around there.

240k is nothing for a diesel...as long as it has been maintained of course. However, if it is going to be your only mode of transportation you are going to get sick of shoveling fuel into it all the time. If you tow a lot of trailers etc, I would get it, but if not, I would be looking for something a bit more economical...just my opinion

Poncho is rite. Going from an economical 2wd S-10 to a 3500 Cummins is like Night and Day in fuel economy.
I would stay true to why your shopping for a truck.
Would you consider the same truck you already have but in a 4x4?
If you tow heavy, frequently, and tow long distances then maybe a diesel would be a good choice
