Im a UK ex-pat living in Alberta CA, slowly turning into a true Albertan red neck, I listen to country music, drink too much beer, ride horses and help the father in law on his cattle ranch.
My first purchase when I arrived just over a year ago was an 03 Grand Cherokee oh and a cowboy hat. To make my red neck transformation complete I've been hankering after a full size crew cab V8 pick up for a while, something I had never even considered one for one moment when I was in the UK, but over here they are perfectly acceptable, practical and I like the looks.
My choices have been narrowed down to a MY04 - 08 F150 (9th or 10th Gen??) with a 5.4 triton, but reviews keep mentioning its underpowered compared to the 1500 series GM trucks (of a similar year). This concerns me as i prefer the look of the F150 but the mistake I made with my Jeep was getting the Straight 6 and not the V8. The acceleration is important to me for two reasons, back in the UK I always had 'hot hatches' as I like acceleration and when free-way driving, especially in Alberta, acceleration is required for changing lanes quickly and making progress on the free way.

Go with the one you like the most. The GM vs Ford vs Dodge thing is all a matter of opinion. This site is predominantly GM fans so you will probably get pointed in that direction. Of course other sites will point you in other directions. Personally I am a GM guy and think the 5.3 is the very best motor GM has ever put out. They go for 250K plus on a regular basis and make decent power for the mileage they get. Good luck with your decision.

,loL, No, not entirely, it was the aggressive looks that slowly grew on me too, but the price and availability. My sales man showed me the paperwork, they took a $3300 dollar loss on the truck, I guess they of set that against the profit they took from the new truck the other customer bought. I guess people don't like Blue Trucks much, but I love blue.
