Default Truck for college

Hi i'm joe and i'm from wisconsin. I will soon be going to college and will need to be buying a truck to compete with the sleet and snow. I dont tow a whole lot of heavy stuff but i ocassionaly do because of my hunting and fishing endeavors. I will be your typical poor college kid, and will need a truck that is reliable, relatively inexpensive (under 10 grand, but prefer under 8), and has some power. I have been looking at a mid 90s f150 with the 300 inline 6 because it is strong and lasts forever. I would probably be into a chevy or ford (not much of a dodge guy) with an inline 6 or a small v8 and gets at least 19mpg highway. to increase fuel economy i would plan to put a chip in. any suggestions of a potential vehicle?

If you plan to get 19mpg don't plan on buying a full size pickup truck. Only the newer trucks get close to that from what MOST of the owners say. I have an 03 Sierra with a 4.8 and auto tranny and the thing only gets like 17mpg average on the highway at about 65mph. In town I'm averaging about 14mpg. You want fuel economy I'd suggest buying a good running S10 with a 4.3 just to get you through college. Still won't be that great but better than a Full Size with a V8.

I agree with charger a S-10 with a V6 would be the way I would go.
