Question Gps

This is the first time I have ever used a forum/blog, so please be tolerant of my short-comings.

I own a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel with a factory, built-in GPS.

I would like to install an external camera to see where I am going when in reverse and I would like to display the image on my built-in DVD/GPS screen and slave the camera such that when I shift into "REVERSE" the camera automatically displays what is behind me.

I am told this is possible. Could anyone confirm or dispute this concept?

Thanks...

I'd imagine as long as there is an input in the back of the GPS has an input module, it would be quite possible. There would have to be a relay run into the neutral sensor and all the other stuff to tell it when to turn on.

If I were you, and I was doing this kind of custom work, I would install the camera and run the wires up front to the screen, but place a switch in place so that you can select whether you want to see what's behind you... I feel like this would be simpler than when in reverse

Yes it's possible... I haven't done this myself, but I hope to be doing it some time in the future. So I'll be following this thread.
It is activated by your reverse light switch.
I was sold on this feature from a friend of mine that has it in his truck.
but his is all a factory option. So if you could get your back up camera option from GM I'm sure it would be close to plug and play.

Welcome to the site, Keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks to GMCSierraFan and In2Trux for your replies. I am going to explore both options, thoroughly. I will update this project as I proceed. Thanks again. Jim
