hi folks...i have a question for you all...my friends 86 toyota pickup died the other night...now it wont turn over at all...lights and all accessories work fine...but no starter..just a rapid clicking sound when the key is turned...he said before it quit there was a lot of hesitation and stalling...any ideas what this might be?...manual tranny in his truck...no a/c....thats about all i know about it though..

I'm no mechanic but with it being an 1986 he might try cleaning the battery posts and wires. If after jumping the engine it doesn't start, try tapping the starter with a few hard but well placed taps. If that doesn't help, the starter may need replacing.

 

dude if it just clicking then the battery doesnt have enough juice to turn the engine over. try jump starting it and if that doesnt work try a different battery. be sure yuo check the current battery for electrolyte in the cells. in other words pop the caps off of the battery and see if the chamber is full. if its not fill it with distilled water. to get the cap of just use a flat head screw driver.
